Grilled Black Pearl Oyster Mushroom and Steak

Ingredients:

For the Marinade:

  • 200g black pearl oyster mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 200g sirloin or ribeye steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh thyme leaves)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked or regular)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

For Serving:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, black pepper, dried thyme, paprika, red pepper flakes, and fresh lemon juice to create the marinade.
  2. Place the steak in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour half of the marinade over the steak, ensuring it's evenly coated. Reserve the other half of the marinade for the mushrooms.
  3. Seal the dish or bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably, marinate the steak for up to 4 hours in the refrigerator. Make sure to turn the steak occasionally to distribute the marinade.
  4. While the steak is marinating, prepare the black pearl oyster mushrooms. Place them in a separate bowl and pour the reserved marinade over them. Toss the mushrooms to coat them evenly with the marinade. Set aside.
  5. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F or 200°C).
  6. Remove the steak from the marinade and let it sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes before grilling. This allows for more even cooking.
  7. Place the marinated steak on the preheated grill. Grill the steak for about 4-6 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust grilling time based on your desired level of doneness). Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature – it should read 130-135°F (54-57°C) for medium-rare.
  8. While the steak is grilling, arrange the marinated black pearl oyster mushrooms on the grill as well. You can use a grill basket or skewers to keep them from falling through the grates.
  9. Grill the mushrooms for about 4-5 minutes per side until they are tender and have nice grill marks.
  10. Once the steak and mushrooms are done, remove them from the grill and let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and keeps the steak juicy.
  11. Slice the grilled steak against the grain into thin strips.
  12. Serve the sliced steak and grilled black pearl oyster mushrooms together on a platter. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and lemon wedges for a bright, fresh finish.
  13. Enjoy your delicious and flavorful grilled black pearl oyster mushroom and steak! It's a perfect combination of savory and smoky flavors that's sure to satisfy your taste buds.
